Announcement From Chairman Bruce Scammell
Five Year Plan for The Hammers

Chairman Bruce Scammell has unveiled a five year
development plan to bring Southern League Football
to the
County
Ground.
After a
season that began with a battle against Wessex
Premier League relegation, Hamworthy United are now
planning for a brighter future for the Club both on
and off the field. Since Manager Simon Browne took
over he has gone a long way to restore confidence,
and lift the team up the table to safety.
The
Hamworthy United Committee under the guidance of
Bruce Scammell have been working hard to lay firm
foundations to ensure that the Club continues to
progress. Local businessman Steve Harvey is now
taking an active part and new sponsors have been
obtained. With 5000 new homes being built in
Hamworthy over the next few years the Hammers will
be hopeful for more sponsorship coming their way
from forward looking local businesses
The County
Ground
is believed to be apart from a set of turnstiles
already up to step four requirements by the FA. They
at present play at step five.
Hamworthy United now confident that they have the
right Manager, and are now in position where
Southern League Football is not just a pipe dream.

HAMWORTHY UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB
A brief history of our club...
A team was first formed in the
1890’s called Hamworthy St Michael’s, winning their
first trophy the Whitehead Minor Cup in the
1899-1900 season. Hamworthy Football Club was
formed in 1926, and moved to the present ground The
County Ground (formally known as The Nursery) in
1950. Hamworthy United Football Club was formed as a
merger between Hamworthy F.C. and Trinidad Old Boys
F.C. in 1970/71 after missing the1969/70 season in
the Dorset Combination League due to administration
problems
Hamworthy United
The First Team have been members of the Sydenhams
Wessex League Premier Division since winning
promotion at the start of the2004/5 season from the
Dorset Premier League. The Hammer’s Second Team were
promoted from the Dorset First Division at the end
of the 2004/5 to play in the Dorset Premier League.
Hamworthy had an Under Eighteen Team in the Dorset
Youth League since its formation until they
unfortunately had to withdraw in 2009 due to
managerial problems.
Hamworthy
United
has had great success at all levels over the years
in various competitions. After winning the
Dorset Combination/ Dorset Premier league two
years running they were promoted in the 2004-2005
Season to Wessex League Division 1. Hamworthy won
the Wessex League Cup in their first season beating Thatcham Town
in the final at
Christchurch. They reached
the final again in the 2008/2009 season but this
time lost to VTFC 2-1 after a very close contest.
The Hammers won the Dorset Combination Cup in the
1997/1998 season against
Wareham Town, and the Dorset Senior Cup in the 2005/2006
season against
Poole
Town. Hamworthy lost to
Eastleigh Town in the 2nd Qualifying
Round of the FA Cup in the 2007/08 and went out to
Basingstoke Town at the same stage in
2008/9.Hamworthy have had several good runs in the
FA Vase their best being in the 2008/09 when they
got as far as the 3rd Round Proper where
they lost to Hungerford.
The Reserves have also been very
successful in recent times. They won the Dorset
Division1Cup twice in 1992, and 1999. They also won
promotion to the Dorset Premier league at the end of
the 2004/05 season. In 2008 the Hammers Second Team
beat Portland Reserves to win the Dorset Senior
Trophy
The Under Eighteen side have also
won several honours over the years winning both the
League and the Dorset Youth Cup in the 1987/88
season. They were the Dorset Youth Division 2
Champions in the 2003/4, and again won the Cup in
season 2004/05, and 2006/07. In 2007/2008 The South
West Youth League Team won promotion to the first
Division, but declined to go up due to the extra
travelling involved The Sunday side in their first
and only season 2008/9 won the Dorset Sunday First
Division
They had to pull out at the end season due to
running costs.
