HAMWORTHY DOMINATE BUT ARE HELD
Five weeks ago Lymington turned in a gritty defensive performance at Hamworthy to take all 3 points. In the return game it was more of the same though this time the points were shared in a 1-1 draw.
Hamworthy opened brightly and after only 3 minutes a right wing corner was cleared to Mark Dancer on the edge of the penalty area. He passed to TIM CONSTABLE whose looping shot took a slight deflection beyond Jonathan Page in the Lymington goal.
Hamworthy settled after this and played some good passing football but after 28 minutes Ollie Cherrett was caught in possession in midfield and the ball was quickly fed to Lymington captain, DARREN RITCHIE, who scored from 16 yards.
In the last 10 minutes before half time, Hammers strikers Tom Jeffes and Warren Byerley were both denied goals by an offside flag from the assistant referee.
Half time: Lymington Town 1 Hamworthy United 1
Once again Hamworthy opened the half with the greater share of possession with Richard Jackson and Tim Constable both joining the attack when possible. Nathan Walker went close with a header and Ollie Cherrett skied over when in a good position.
At the other end Lymington hit the underside of the bar but the referee ruled that the ball went out in the lead up play.
With 5 minutes left Lymington had an amazing escape as Page, whose handling looked uncertain all night, dropped the ball at Byerley’s feet. With the goal gaping a Lymington defender threw himself at the goalbound shot diverting the ball for a corner. Hamworthy’s penalty appeals for hand ball were turned down.
In the closing minute Jackson was harshly red carded for a tackle and the game ended all square
